Iron Gate has released patch 1.0.21 for Valheim. It is a maintenance update without new content: bug fixes, balance changes and smaller improvements. This summary is based on the German video "VALHEIM Patch 1.0.21" by Onkel Eifel from 28 October 2026, which walks through the official patch notes. The game data on ValheimBase has not been updated yet.

Combat and creatures

  • Flung away when jumping: A fix is meant to stop players from being launched at extreme speed when jumping onto certain enemies. Whether it covers every situation remains to be seen in game.
  • Kall Fimbulbringer: Less camera shake on certain attacks. The fire damage over time from the fire nova one attack leaves on the ground has been halved; this affects only that ground effect, not the whole attack. His loot also no longer falls through the ground.
  • Nord Greatsword and variants: Hitting several enemies with one swing no longer lowers the damage per enemy.
  • Elk in the Deep North: Collision areas match the body better, and their attack range is slightly shorter.
  • Gammeltrolls: Their fist attacks no longer destroy other petrified Gammeltrolls.
  • Wolf spirits: They can no longer breed.

Trees and Timberwood

  • Trees in the Deep North drop Timberwood Cones that can be planted in other biomes. According to the video, planting outside the Deep North already worked before the patch; most likely the cones now drop more reliably.
  • Tree drops have been rebalanced: fewer cones, more Timberwood.
  • Tree stumps in the Deep North no longer sway in the wind.

Building, crafting and bases

  • Baked Poteitr, Kale Chips and Oven Pancake are now prepared at the Food Preparation Table instead of the cauldron. The descriptions of the uncooked versions have been corrected.
  • Upgrading the Deep North mage hood no longer requires elk trophies.
  • The Hood of the Vanguard can be placed on an item stand.
  • Some previously indestructible objects in certain locations can now be destroyed (the patch notes do not say which). Snow walls, for example in Deep North settlements, are easier to remove.
  • Iron torches, sconces and braziers are a little quieter.

Weather and graphics

  • Snowstorms in the Deep North and the Mountains, and ash storms in the Ashlands, no longer appear inside houses.
  • Visible transition lines on the sea surface have been fixed.
  • Frozen skeletons and Greydwarfs stay visible at a greater distance.

Other fixes

  • The trader window could not be opened after a cutscene.
  • Two trinkets could be equipped at once via item stands.
  • The "No Skill Drain" effect could reactivate after expiring.
  • Items could land outside the inventory when the mouse button was released.
  • Several rare crashes, mostly in multiplayer.

Achievements

  • Mighty Halls, Comfort is King, The Homesteader, The Architect and The Survivor are no longer wrongly tied to the difficulty setting.
  • The Trophy Collector will require the troll trophy.
  • The Frost Foundry now records who crafted an item even when the station is owned by another player on the network. Progress for the related achievement still follows network ownership for now; the full fix will come in a later update.

Platforms

  • Steam: A save caching error when worlds were changed outside the game.
  • Xbox: Invalid special characters in character or world names made the main menu UI disappear; such names are now cleaned up retroactively. The controller mapping screen no longer appears at startup.
  • PlayStation: A notice appears when joining a crossplay server with "PS5 only" enabled.
  • Nintendo Switch: The achievement detail view can be scrolled by touchscreen.

The patch does not arrive on every platform at the same time and may take a few days. Crossplay should keep working in the meantime.
