Where do I find my .fch file?
Each character is one .fch file named after the character. Valheim writes the map into it when the game saves or when you log out. Take the file ending in .fch, not the backups ending in .old or similar.
- Windows: press Win+R, enter %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim and open the folder characters_local (local characters) or characters.
- Characters saved in the Steam Cloud usually sit in the Steam folder under userdata\<your Steam ID>\892970\remote\characters.
- Linux and Steam Deck (desktop mode): ~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/characters_local. Cloud characters: ~/.local/share/Steam/userdata/<your Steam ID>/892970/remote/characters. Folders starting with a dot are hidden; show them in the file manager.
- On Xbox, PlayStation and with the Game Pass app there is usually no direct access to the file, so the viewer is meant for PC and Steam Deck.
